Evergy Metro (formerly Kansas City Power and Light)

Evergy Metro offers two EV-eligible time-of-use rate structures depending on which state a customer lives in. Kansas Metro customers can opt into the Nights and Weekends plan, which concentrates peak pricing in the 4 pm to 8 pm window on weekdays and applies lower pricing to all other hours including full weekends and holidays. Missouri Metro customers have access to that same plan, plus an EV Only plan that carries the same three pricing tiers, with the super off-peak window running from midnight to 6 am daily. The EV Only plan requires a separately metered circuit dedicated exclusively to EV charging; Evergy installs the secondary meter at no cost, but the customer pays a licensed electrician to wire a new meter-can. Exact kWh prices for both plans sit in tariff filings that differ between the Kansas and Missouri operating companies and change with each rate case; check Evergy's plan pages or the state commission tariff books for current prices before comparing rates.

The residential rebate is structured so TOU enrollment increases the payout. Kansas Metro customers receive a $250 base rebate toward a qualifying Level 2 charger, and that amount doubles to $500 when they also enroll in the Nights and Weekends rate or EV TOU rate. Missouri Metro customers receive up to $500 as well, but only with TOU enrollment: Missouri offers no rebate without it, and the terms require staying on the TOU rate for one year after the rebate is paid. Both programs require a licensed electrician installation, proof of EV ownership or lease, and an application submitted within 6 months of installation. The commercial program covers workplaces, fleet sites, multifamily properties, and public charging locations at $2,500 per Level 2 port or $20,000 per DCFC unit, with Kansas Metro funding available through March 14, 2027 and Missouri Metro funding through March 31, 2027, or until exhausted.

Evergy Metro is a vertically integrated investor-owned utility regulated by the Kansas Corporation Commission in Kansas and the Missouri Public Service Commission in Missouri. Its parent company Evergy Inc. also operates Evergy Kansas Central and Evergy Missouri West, but rates and program eligibility differ by operating company. Customers should verify program eligibility with Evergy directly, as rate details vary between the Kansas and Missouri operating companies.
