Evergy Kansas Central's voluntary Nights and Weekends time-of-use plan is the main tool for EV owners who want to cut charging costs. The plan sets peak prices from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and charges nothing extra during the peak window on weekends and holidays. It adds a super off-peak overnight period from midnight to 6 a.m., when charging is cheapest, so an EV owner who plugs in after midnight pays the lowest rate the utility offers. Customers can opt in voluntarily and opt out at any time. The plan suits drivers who can shift charging to overnight or weekend hours.

The residential charger rebate and the time-of-use rate are designed to work together. Customers who install a qualifying Level 2 charger get a $250 rebate, and that doubles to $500 if they also enroll in the Nights and Weekends plan. Rebates must be claimed within six months of installation. Evergy runs a separate business rebate for commercial and multifamily sites, paying $2,500 per Level 2 port and $20,000 per DC fast charger, on a first-come basis until funding runs out or March 14, 2027.

Evergy Kansas Central is the former Westar Energy and is one of several Evergy operating companies. Its EV rates and rebates are filed and approved separately through the Kansas Corporation Commission, so the Kansas terms differ from Evergy's Missouri offerings. The EV Charging Rewards managed charging pilot is available only to Kansas residential customers and is capped at 2,000 participants, which means enrollment can close once the pilot fills.
