We Energies offers a residential time-of-use rate, schedule Rg-2, that an EV owner can use to charge cheaply overnight. Customers pick one of four 12-hour weekday on-peak windows (7am to 7pm, 8am to 8pm, 9am to 9pm, or 10am to 10pm), and every hour outside that window, including all weekends and holidays, is off-peak. As of January 1, 2026, on-peak energy costs 30.084 cents per kWh and off-peak costs 10.028 cents, so overnight charging runs about a third of the daytime price. Prices are set in tariffs approved by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin and reset each year, so customers should confirm the current numbers before enrolling. The standard residential rate Rg-1 is the default for customers who do not switch.

The residential EV pilot stacks on top of whichever residential rate a customer already has, Rg-1 or Rg-2. It pays an off-peak bill credit for energy used between midnight and 8am daily, capped at 400 kWh per month. The credit is larger on the standard rate than on time-of-use because the time-of-use rate already discounts off-peak hours. There is no residential rebate for buying or installing a home charger. The business EV charger pilot is separate and aimed at fleet, workplace, and public sites, covering utility upgrade costs and possible facility wiring rebates.

We Energies is an investor-owned utility in an integrated, regulated market, so customers cannot shop for a competing electricity supplier. Rates and pilot terms are filed with and approved by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, and the EV pilots are time-limited pilot offerings rather than permanent tariffs. Availability and credit amounts can change at the close of each pilot, so customers should verify the program is still open before planning around it.
