Tampa Electric does not offer a dedicated EV time-of-use rate for residential customers. Most residential customers pay under the standard Rate Schedule RS, with energy charges around 9.6 to 10.6 cents per kWh depending on usage tier, plus fuel and other riders that raise the effective rate. The closest thing to a time-of-use option is the Energy Planner program (rate schedule RSVP-1), which offers variable pricing with a low period of roughly 13 cents per kWh and a critical-peak rate near 42.6 cents per kWh for rare high-demand events. It is not marketed as an EV rate, but EV owners who can shift charging to the low-price hours benefit from its off-peak pricing.

Tampa Electric has no residential EVSE rebate program as of June 2026; a prior residential rebate program ran through September 2025 but has not been renewed. The Prime Time Plus demand-response program does not replace a rebate: it pays up to $360 per year in bill credits when customers enroll a hardwired Level 2 charger (along with other eligible equipment) and allow the utility to briefly curtail power during rare peak events. Those two programs cannot be combined; Energy Planner and Prime Time Plus are mutually exclusive. On the commercial side, the Drive Smart pilot (approved by the Florida PSC in 2021 as a four-year program) had Tampa Electric own and maintain chargers at eligible business locations at no equipment cost to the host.

Tampa Electric is an investor-owned utility regulated by the Florida Public Service Commission, not a municipal or co-op. Florida does not have statewide EV purchase incentives or a mandatory TOU tariff for EV owners, so the utility's programs are the primary local layer on top of federal tax credits. The service territory is in west-central Florida, where summer cooling loads dominate the peak demand calendar; that seasonal pattern is why the utility's demand-response events concentrate in summer afternoons.
