Once you enroll an eligible home charger, BED credits 8.4246 cents per kWh on the energy used to charge between 10pm and 12pm the following day, which the utility describes as up to 45 percent savings on EV charging. The window is wide, so most overnight and midday charging qualifies. If you charge outside that window during a billing month, you lose the credit for that month's EV energy, so it best fits drivers who can schedule charging.
The rebates are designed to stack. The home charger rebate, $900 with an all-electric vehicle, $700 with a plug-in hybrid, or $1,000 for income-qualified customers and capped at 75 percent of installed cost, requires the charger to be enrolled in the EV Rate, so the rate and the charger rebate go together. Vehicle purchase rebates apply on top and combine with state, federal, and manufacturer incentives. Commercial and multifamily charger rebates are a separate track for businesses and property owners, not the residential path.
BED is a municipal, city-owned utility, not an investor-owned company, and it sells 100 percent renewable electricity. Nearly every incentive requires the vehicle or property to be in Burlington and the customer to hold an active BED account, so eligibility tracks the city limits rather than a broad regional territory. Most current rebate amounts and the EV Rate are published as valid through December 31, 2026, and several are limited by available program funds.
