Alabama Power's EV-specific residential option is the EV Night Charging Discount, taken as an optional rider on top of your standard residential rate rather than as a standalone published cents-per-kWh plan. It discounts the energy used to charge a home EV charger during off-peak hours, every night from 9pm to 5am. It suits drivers who can schedule charging overnight; daytime charging is billed at the normal residential rate, so the value depends on shifting most charging into the late-night window.

The $500 EV Home Charger Rebate is a one-time payment toward a Level 2 charger and is limited to single-family residential customers who own or lease a BEV or PHEV. It is separate from the rate rider and from EV GridWise+, the managed-charging program that pays up to $100 (a $50 sign-up incentive plus ongoing participation rewards) for letting Alabama Power optimize home charging through WeaveGrid. A driver can combine the home charger rebate, the night discount, and GridWise+. Businesses use a different track: the separately metered Rate BEVT and the Make Ready infrastructure rebate.

Alabama Power is a vertically integrated, investor-owned utility, so it both generates power and sets retail rates through Alabama Public Service Commission tariffs; there is no competitive retail supplier choice in its territory. Its EV programs, including Make Ready and the BEVT rate, are PSC-approved tariff offerings rather than open-market products, which means terms and funding can change at the regulator's direction and commercial rebate windows depend on remaining program budget.
